Thesis Related Funding

Thesis-Related Funding

Senior thesis-related funding is now administered through the unified Plan II Student Support Scholarship application. Students pursuing thesis-related travel, research, archival work, creative production, laboratory expenses, or other approved thesis-related costs should apply through the standard Student Support Scholarship application and indicate “thesis” as the primary purpose of the request.

Eligible students must be currently enrolled in a two-semester honors thesis course (TC 660HA and 660HB or an approved departmental honors thesis sequence) and must have a faculty supervisor directly overseeing the project.

Applications should be as specific, concrete, and detailed as possible. Students should clearly explain:

  • the scope and goals of the thesis project
  • why the proposed research, travel, or expenses are necessary
  • how the funding will contribute to the successful completion of the thesis
  • what can realistically be accomplished within the proposed timeframe

For requests over $500 related to thesis work, a brief statement of support from the thesis supervisor is required by the application deadline. The statement may be submitted by email to planiischolarships@austin.utexas.edu.

Funding may support:

  • thesis-related research travel
  • archival or library research
  • interviews or fieldwork
  • laboratory or project expenses
  • creative or production costs directly related to the thesis

Funding is intended to supplement project expenses and will typically cover only part of the total cost. Students are encouraged to seek additional funding sources where appropriate.

Students should refer to the main Plan II Student Support Scholarships page for current application cycles, eligibility requirements, funding policies, and application instructions.
